Hi I'm Paul

 Hello everyone,

My name is Paul Na, I am a 24 year old father to a beautiful 2 year old girl. As you can see from the photo I was a former Marine I served 4 years in the infantry. I had some of the greatest and worst times of my life however it taught me a valuable lesson. That experience while serving helped mold me into the man I am today. I currently live in Danbury CT studying criminal justice here at NVCC. I hope to move back to the Carolina's in hopes to enjoy the country side.

As for the class, I hope to become a forensic tech one day so I thought photography would be a great idea. Thank you for taking the time to read, I look forward to working with everyone in the class.

Hello!

My name is Chris Arias and i'm a business management major. I work as an apprentice full time for a heating and cooling company. Hobbies of mine are music and sports. I play the piano and dabble in singing which I do at my local church. I love music because every genre of music is unique in it's own ways and I think it's fun to hear all kinds of music. I'll play any sport for fun, but my top two are soccer and basketball

My goal for this class is to be able to truly understand how to take good photos and understand the fundamentals in what goes into photography. I plan on using this knowledge to help the media team at my church and also utilize my knowledge into a new possible hobby. Just got a Canon Rebel T7 and it's been pretty fun to use so far. Hoping by the end of this class I will be a decent photographer!

Heyy!

 Hi Everyone,

My name is Amal El-Mougharbel , I just graduated high school I went to ACE which is an Alternative school in Danbury. Originally  i'm from Lebanon I just came to the U.S 4 years ago, right now i'm majoring in criminal justice it's my first year, hopefully become a probation officer.

I'm hard working person, I have a bubbly personality I'm a very friendly person don't judge anyone I just want to help and be there if someone needs me. surprisingly I'm an indoor person I enjoy doing activities that are indoors. I'm the oldest of 2 girls and first person to go college on my mom's family side.

I'm interested in learning first year photography, because life is full of beautiful and sad moments and one day or sometimes you just need to look back at certain memories to either laugh, or remember a loved one. I want to be able to catch those moments best way possible, and learning photography will help me become better at taking pictures and capture them in the most beautiful way.

Hi there!

Hello everyone. My name is Talita, I am originally from Brazil and have been living in the U.S. for about 7 years now. I am currently working on an A.S in Business Studies, and I am also doing Biology with the intention of transfering and getting a bachelors in Environmental Science.

I am a very curious person, and have always loved to see old videos and pictures of my family, to get to know who they are and what is their story. So, since I was a little girl I liked to get these old pictures and to hear all the stories that were behind that specific moment that was resgitered. I believe that since that time then, I developed this love for photography, and had always the desire to be able to learn more and get more knowlodge on how to do it with a high quality. So, this brought me this class, which I believe will be delightful.

So to get the most that I can from this class, the equipments that I will be using in this class will be a Canon T7 camera and a smartphone, which I am also looking forward to learn how to better use both, and get the best pictures that I can.

This picture was taken with my Canon Camera, using my reflection on my bookcase.

Photo+Bio

 Hi!

My name is Tara Ryan and I'm majoring in Digital Arts!  At first I was just graphics/animation concentration but I decided to double in video/audio as well.

I currently am a receptionist for a distribution company, where I do normal office tasks.

Growing up in a large family we were always running around outdoors so I love being outside, I love nature with a passion. Instead of taking the dance class they recommend for digital arts, I am taking Geology for my lab. I am constantly camping and before COVID, traveling.

Fun random fact about me is I've been deaf in my ear since I was four! I had a tumor in my left ear that had to be removed and fixed over the course of 11 surgeries. Many people expect this is a drawback in my life but at age 24, I am so used to it! I don't wear a hearing aid I just trained myself to adjust to certain situations.

My boyfriend and I just bought a house August 3rd, so that has been a huge impact on my life and time. I love staying busy so it is something super exciting for me!

"Inventive selfie" -S.Reid

Here is a sample bio from my Albertus evening class...

Hello,

My name is Sophie Reid and I am a human services major. For the pass 20 years I have been working for Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. Currently, I am a Unit Director for the Southwest facility. I have been under that role for 5 years now. I have a passion for service to my community and mentor youth to reach their full potential as productive and responsible citizens. My goals for this class is to finally learn how to use photoshop and understand digital photography. As far as equipment that I will be using to shoot and edit is my smartphone and Canon camera. This photo below was taken with my Iphone 10. Took a few shots but I finally was able to choose the one I wanted to post. Have a great day!

Sophie

Here is a rundown of the assignments

 1. Introduction to Composition, shoot in a built environment using geometry, lines, angles, etc. to fill the frame to make interesting designs or compositions.  Pay particular attention to how light is working and here the focal point is..

2. Water, nature, not built environment.  Reflections, patterns, textures, light, light, light.. water in and form... running, still, frozen, fluid, etc.

3. Light and Shadow... Find patterns of shadow and light.  Relate this back to the first assignment, ie, fill the frame, make an interesting design.  Look around your house, in the street, downtown, etc... tree shadows on snow or pavement can be good... it is harder to work in nature though.

4. Macro... move in and fill the frame with tiny objects... Remember to pay attention to light again... move in close, fill the frame.

5. Window light portrait.  Take someone or a pet by a window.  Put your shoulder against the same wall the window is on.  Turn the face toward the light.  Hold the camera vertically.  Crop in to the top of the head.  Put more space in front of the face, in other words, don't center the head in the frame.

Take enough pictures so that you can put 10 edited examples of each assignment in your Google Drive... generally it is best to take 10 images for each one that is called a final image.  It is a numbers game when we are learning.  How rich to be able to pick out the best 10 out of 50 instead of coping with just 10 to begin with.

Make a separate sub folder for each assignment.

So what is due this week?

Welcome to the first week of class...!

The main job this week is to get all systems up and running and to begin shooting the first assignment.  That work will be due the following week.  Specifically:

1. Join the blog, watch "How to post to the blog" linked in the upper right hand side.

2. Post an inventive selfie.... If you are shy, it can be a shadow, a distorted reflection from any shiny surface... the possibilities are endless...Vivian Maier's self portraits from the 1950's are worth a look.... You might want to google her... she was an unknown but brilliant photographer who spent her life as a nanny.

3. Write a short bio introducing yourself.  Major? Work? Children?  What goals do you have for this class?  What equipment will you be using both to shoot and edit your work... please be specific.

4. Read the Syllabus!

5. Download and install Adobe Photoshop.  Use your Albertus login to join the creative cloud. Don't have a decent computer, Pc or Mac?  Let me know so we can set you up with an alternate way to edit your work.  A very big part of this class is to learn to edit your images.

6. Go to Drive.google.com and create a new folder titled Digital Photo Mod 1 2020, (your name). Create a sub-folder titled "Assignment , composition"  Share the main folder with me by right clicking on it then left click "share"  Enter my email address, jnevins@albertus.edu.

7. Begin shooting the first assignment, "Introduction to Composition".  Start putting your images in the sub-folder. You will need to have a minimum of 50 by the end of next week.

I will take attendance for class each Monday morning by 9 am for work posted the previous week.  I have to submit 2 attendance records each week...

Please email me with any questions, or you can ask them here on the blog.  Remember to create you own post and not to use the "comment" link to make your own post.

Tuesday, August 18, 2020

Welcome to Digital Photography I. (and II)  Take a moment to watch the how to post video linked above.  It is important that you respond to the email blogger sent you in order to join the blog.  Only members can post and comment here. Class runs from Aug 24th - October 17th, 2020.

Once you get going, you will see that it is easy and intuitive... and so much nicer looking than the eLearning shell.  Albertus is a Google Apps for Education campus, and Blogger is one of the apps available to you.

For the first week, I want you to get up and running and post a bio with a photo here.  Please state what camera you will be using.  If a phone, state the model. Download and install Photoshop using your Albertus credentials.  (link above). You should have either a Windows pc or laptop or a Mac desktop or laptop.  A chrome book can't run Photoshop.  If that's what you have, then you'll need to work on your phone to edit your phone cam pictures and upload to the blog from your phone... Another possibility is that you could receive a remote login to an Albertus computer with Photoshop and run it from your Chromebook.

Read through the assignments in the syllabus.  Use Google images to get ideas for your work.  The first assignment, Introduction to Composition asks you to think about finding geometry in your compositions using the built environment (not nature)  Here is a good short tutorial on the subject.

This is a workshop class.  To succeed, you need to post 6-10 of your best pieces, edited in Photoshop for light and focal point each week. Additionally, post at least 50 pictures from all that you took for the assignment in Google Drive. I take attendance on Monday morning for the previous week's work.  I want you to have fun with this class.  Looking forward to working with you!
